History

CTC Media was founded in 1989 by U.S. entrepreneur Peter Gerwe.
The company commenced television operations in 1994, initially broadcasting from its first owned-and-operated station in St.Petersburg to a number of cities across Russia as a “superstation” — a single station that retransmits its signal to remote locations.

In December 1996, it launched CTC, national network broadcasting by satellite from its center in Moscow. Since 1995, CTC Media has acquired and established a number of new television stations throughout Russia, through which it continues to develop its brand.

Domashny, the company’s second national network, was launched in March 2005 following the acquisition of four television stations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm and Kazan.

DTV, the company's third national network, was acquired from Modern Times Group MTG AB in April 2008.

Today, CTC Media’s largest shareholders include Modern Times Group and Alfa Group Consortium.
