In 2007-2008, CTC Media entered other CIS markets outside Russia: it acquired a majority economic interest in Channel 31 Group in Kazakhstan, registered a new broadcasting company in Uzbekistan and acquired a majority interest in the broadcasting group: Teledixi SRL and Music Ramil SRL in Moldova. CTC Media continues to view the countries of the former Soviet Union as attractive strategic opportunities. It plans to continue to execute on its expansion strategy by extending the reach of its brands to other markets in the CIS that are poised for robust growth and where Russian content is a proven success with audiences.

KAZAKHSTAN

Channel 31 is based in Almaty, Kazakhastan, and has been broadcasting since 1992. Before its acquisition by CTC Media, the channel was the fourth largest in Kazakhstan in terms of audience share, which averaged 7.1% in the second half of 2007.

CTC Media started broadcasting in the CTC format on Channel 31 on March 31, 2008. The current programming mix consists of CTC shows and series (60%), as well as local Kazakhstan programming and foreign content acquired specifically for Channel 31 (40%). Currently, the channel that targets primarily young audiences, aged 6-54 is one of the leading broadcasters in its target demographic with average audience share 11.6% for 2009.

UZBEKISTAN

In September 2007, CTC established a new TV company in Uzbekistan in cooperation with Terra group, a leading independent Uzbek media holding, which commenced commercial broadcasting in April 2008 on Channel 30. The channel’s programming schedule includes a mix of CTC and Domashny content.

MOLDOVA

In October 2008, CTC Media acquired a broadcasting group in Moldova: Teledixi SRL and Music Ramil SRL. This group started broadcasting in 2001 and currently owns broadcasting licenses for 10 cities in Moldova, including Kishinev. Technical penetration of the channel is 98% of the territory of Moldova. The group possesses advanced technical transmitting facilities, including multi-channel satellite stations, and owns two production studios that enable to provide up to 10 hours of in-house programming daily. The channel was re-launchrd in CTC format in April 2009.
